It DOESN’T MATTER what you’re trying to accomplish,its a matter of DISCIPLINE. I was DETERMINED to DISCOVER what life held for me BEYOND the inner streets (Wilma Rudolph) Are you able, are you willing to look BEYOND your current situation and MAKE UP YOUR MIND to DISCOVER what else God has to offer you? Can you, will you look BEYOND your education, look beyond your finances, look beyond your job, look beyond that relationship, look beyond your frustrations, regrets, mistakes, look beyond your inabilities and see the infinite ABILITY of a God who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all YOU and I could EVER ask or think? Are you willing to DISCIPLINE yourself enough to pursue the life you not only hope for but the life God DESIRES for you to have, which is a life of abundance? If God can look BEYOND our faults and still desire a better life for us, how determined are you to have what God desires to give? How Bad Do You Want It? Perfecting where you are by knowing who you are.
I was reared in Sunday School as a kid which meant I heard the story of David and Goliath numerous times! Today when I look back I am grateful for that story because it has given me the confidence to face my own Goliath’s. I have learned that sometimes life and all its STUFF may not only appear to be 11ft tall…IT IS! Family crisis, health scares, financial struggles, mental and emotional instability, can literally overtake us and defeat us IF we allow it to. But I’m reminded of David when he faced his Goliath. While others were quick to run and avoid the situation, David felt a tugging in his spirit to confront it. You may simply just get sick & tired of BEING sick & tired of your circumstances and say enough is enough! In that moment, like David, your FAITH is stirred up and it should COMPEL you to fight. Fight for your family, fight for your health, fight for your peace! But how? And with what? When David stepped out to fight Goliath he only had who he was. His “arsenal” consisted of a shepherd staff (or stick), a shepherd’s bag, his slingshot and 5 smooth stones. Oh yeah…and a HEART FULL OF FAITH! Who you are and what you bring to the fight is MORE THAN ENOUGH because if you don’t already know, the battle is the LORD’S and HE will place the victory in YOUR hands! He just needs you to SHOW UP! Goliath talked “trash” for 40 days. I wasn’t until David showed up that Goliath was defeated. Your family, your love ones, your LIFE is waiting for you to SHOW UP. Stop questioning your talents and abilities and what you think you don’t have to offer. Who you are is more than enough once you allow God to take where you are and perfect who you are.
This has been a day of tears for me. I CRIED for James Craig Anderson, a 49 year old plant worker in Jackson Mississippi. He was randomly targeted by white teens whose mission was to “find and hurt a black person.” Not only did they repeatedly beat him, they got in their Ford truck, floored the gas and ran over James Anderson, killing him instantly. I CRIED for my girl who called me after having a moment. This is someone who has given and given so much to others that she is struggling to reclaim herself. I CRIED for my home girl who called to tell me her only sibling dead of brain cancer after having beat breast cancer two years ago. What has MOVED you to tears lately? Who have YOU cried with? Whose burden did you HELP carry? What have you SOWN in tears so that SOMEONE ELSE else might reap in joy? I track how I spend my time in my planner, I have my appointments on blackberry, I never leave home without my watch! But lately I’ve notice how much time PEOPLE can steal from us. Have you ever been on a call with someone and realize you’ve been on the phone for 2-3 hours!? (Fellas, its not just us ladies…I’ve talked to guys that long….and YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!) I’m a firm believer in sharing our life and time with others but the critical measure of that investment is how do you feel afterwards. Is there an excitement, a rush to go and do what they inspired you to do? Or are you drained not because they depleted you but because you cared that much to pour into them? Or do you feel abused and beat up because they choose to use you as target practice for their frustrations and you feel like you’ve done battle with the dragon and he won?
