The most satisfying thing in life is to have been able to give a large part of oneself to others (Pierre Teilhard de Chardin) I was in Glen Falls NY for business doing what I normally do after a long day of workshops; having dinner…alone. I heard this elderly white couple come in and sit not too far from me. They were having a lively exchange and you could tell they enjoyed each other’s company. The gentleman got up to go to the restroom and as he was returning to his table he stopped and said to me, “You must be traveling for business.” I smile and said, “Yes I am.” He immediately said, “Well why don’t you join me and Nancy at our table, we’d love the company.” I was all prepared to politely declined, but something inside of me said, “Why not!?” Next thing I know I’m carrying my plate to their table and having the best conversation with this couple, who, on the surface I had nothing in common with. David and Nancy reminded me of the childhood lesson most parents try to teach their children; the lesson of SHARING. How often do we miss those opportunities to share with someone else? It doesn’t have to be anything big, it could be something as simple as a SMILE, a FRIENDLY GLANCE, a SINCERE HELLO or GOOD MORNING. We live in a world where its easy to be forgotten, overlooked, and ignored. I teach in my workshops that WE ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD….therefore your job in life is to DISPEL darkness. So while the day is still early, find someone and SHARE YOUR LIGHT! Perfecting where you are by knowing who you are
We all have experienced the “fight or flight” response. We encounter something or someone that is threatening so we either become aggressive and fight or we flee if we sense that it will overtake us. I remember growing up in the late 60s and 70s, we were told “if someone hits you hit them back, never run from a bully!” What I’m about to say by no means is meant to diminish the power of peaceful resolutions…HOWEVER DOT COM…life’s circumstances can sometimes make you feel like you are in the fight of your life and you know what….YOU ARE. We sometimes wrestle with feelings of insecurity and doubt, we can feel cornered by fear and anxiety. Sometimes we get the wind kicked out of our hopes and dreams. Ann Landers said: “Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life and when it comes, hold your head high, look it squarely in the eye and say, “I will be bigger than you; you cannot defeat me.” The Apostle Paul told us in the book of Ephesians chpt 6: “Be STRONG in the Lord and in the power of HIS MIGHT and to put on the WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD.” In life, there is a time for everything…a time for peace and yes, even a time for war. Do you have a dream, a desire that wells up in you so that it floods your very soul…then fight for it. Do you desire the peace and guidance of God for your life: then FIGHT for it. Do you know that where you are today, be it in a relationship (or trying to get out of one), on a job (or no job), financially struggling (or broke) is NOT where you or God wants you to be: then FIGHT for it. Before Ann Landers said it, the Word of God declared YOU TO BE MORE THAN A CONQUEROR IN ALL THINGS! Perfecting where you are by knowing who you are
I remember as a kid when we were learning something new like how to write our names or tie our shoestrings, and when we would mess up the teacher would say, “do it over again.” They knew that with practice we would eventually get it right. Each new day that God allows us to see, He being both the Giver and Teacher of Life, is granting us a “DO OVER.” He knows that with each new day that we allow Him to SPEAK to us, to GUIDE us, we will eventually get it right. So if the Lord so graciously allows you to see tomorrow, Seize the Moment. WHATEVER you messed up yesterday on your job, with your family, spouse, significant other, children or friend, DO IT OVER, BUT DO IT RIGHT! Perfecting where you are by knowing who you are.
I have long been a fan of the series C.S.I. (Las Vegas of course! Miss you Grissom!) The theme song has always struck a chord with me: Who are you? (Who, who, who, who?) I really wanna know (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?) And if you’ve ever watched the show you know the focus is on following the evidence in order to give the report, to tell the story; much like our lives today. Our decisions, our actions, our choices is evidence of what we believe about ourselves, our skills, talents, abilities. But if you were to read the report of your life, would you be pleased with how the story ends? Who we are and who God SAYS we are can be in stark contrast when compared to the evidence of our life. But God does not want the evidence of your life to define who you are, He wants your faith to REDEFINE who you are. Now faith is the substances of things HOPED FOR, the EVIDENCE of things NOT SEEN. (Hebrews 11:1) Without faith, we have yet to see the best of who God has called you to be! Perfecting where you are by knowing who you are
